What does EMS Management & Consultants, Inc. do for EMS services?

We are a third-party billing agency who submits claims to insurance companies and patients on your behalf.

Is EMS Management & Consultants, Inc. a collection agency?

No, we are a billing agency.  For clients that decide to pursue collections, we submit these unpaid claims to a licensed collections company.

What is the extent of EMS Management & Consultants, Inc's services?  Will patients be calling us with questions? 

After the EMS service sends us the patient / billing information, we submit the claims to insurance companies or directly to the patient.  We do all follow up on each claim until payment is made.

How do we send EMS Management & Consultants, Inc. the transport information?

We receive the trip call reports (PPCRs, ACRs) via U.S. mail, Fed Ex, UPS, internet, etc.

What software vendors does EMS Management & Consultants, Inc. currently receive electronic data from for the processing of trips?

We receive data from Clients using emsCharts, ESO Solutions, Healthware, Medusa, Ortivus/Sweet Computer Systems, Roam IT, SANSIO, Zoll Data Systems (EMS Pro), and Zoll Data Systems (Tablet PCR).

How is the money handled after insurance or patients pay?

Medicare and Medicaid payments are typically wired directly to your designated bank account.  All other checks are processed at our office and mailed  to you.  Direct deposits can also be made on your behalf if your bank has a branch in our area.  All checks are made out in the EMS Agency's name.  We never have the authority to endorse checks.

What quality assurance measures do you have in place to ensure the payments are properly handled?

Our structure provides for the separation of duties among the billing, posting, and deposit functions.  In addition, our Accounts Receivable department reconciles all posting activity back to the deposit on a daily basis.  Furthermore, all PPCRs or ACRs, EOBs and checks are scanned and indexed in our digital imaging system.  This system is integrated to our billing software which enables the instant viewing of critical documents to each account.

Is EMS Management & Consultants, Inc. current with all HIPAA mandates, compliance issues, policy changes, etc.?

At EMS Management & Consultants, we understand HIPAA's strategic importance.  We have designated a Privacy Officer who reports to senior management and directs the compliance programs, policies and other efforts, including:

 

•  Education programs for all staff

•  Partner and vendor contractual compliance

•  Software vendor transaction/ code set assessments

•  Updating clients regarding HIPAA

•  Compliance audits

•  Ongoing privacy policy development

 

EMS Management & Consultants has and will continue to develop, document, implement and maintain the appropriate measures to address HIPAA compliance in each of these areas as they are currently defined and as they evolve.
